OVERVIEW

Affordability is not a word oft uttered buying the wines of Pomerol, and from a top Chateau yet rarer, however, the third wine of Chateau Clinet is a hearty quaffer that in strong vintages can offer good value for money in wine (and terrific value on the right bank). Named after Château Clinet's CEO, Ronan Laborde, the wine originates from the terroirs of Côtes de Castillon, Bourg, Lussac Saint Emilion and Bordeaux.

CRITIC REVIEWS

The 2018 Ronan by Client is a blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, made from bought-in fruit. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it has fragrant notes of black and red cherries and blackberry preserves with cinnamon toast and fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, it is lively and fresh with a grainy texture and savory finish. 90 Points. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION

This wine will pair well with all lamb dishes including roast lamb and lamb chops and a Sunday lunch.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING

A 94 point vintage according to the Wine Spectator. This mega ripe, super hot vintage was early picking in Pomerol where it was frankly impossible to make a poor Merlot. In the hands of Chateau Clinet - unthinkable!

PRODUCER NOTES

Château Clinet is a prestigious winery located in Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, and is renowned for producing some of the finest red wines in the world. The vineyard has been in the family since 1805, and in that time has been producing wines of exceptional quality and complexity. The winery is run by the fifth generation of the family, Jean-Michel Arcaute and his wife, Francoise.

Once a sister to Petrus, both chateaux having been owned by the Arnaud family, the Clinet Grand Vin used to command one of the healthiest prices on the Right Bank. Château Clinet produces three different red wines, including the Clinet Pomerol, Fleur de Clinet and Ronan by Clinet.

SERVICE AND STORAGE TIPS

The wine should be stored over the longer term at 12c. We recommend this wine be brought up to around 16c for service. This temperature more closely resembles cellar conditions and allows the wine to be lifted and have freshness. For such a young wine, if it were served today we would recommend a few hours in a young wine decanter.
