OVERVIEW

A serious Champagne that will please even the most discerning of bubble lovers, Jacquesson was recently voted the third best Champagne house in France after Krug and Bollinger.

The 700 range of extra brut Champage has now reached number 745, a Champagne based around the 2017 harvest from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers (66%), Avize and Oiry (34%).

A critics favourite, Antonio Galloni had this to say about the quality of this bottling. "The 700-series wines are some of the best in Champagne, while the new lieu-dit bottlings capture a measure of pure visceral thrill equaled by few Champagnes. There is little doubt Jacquesson is now one of the elites in Champagne. This set of new and upcoming releases is stunning." Antonio Galloni.

CRITIC REVIEWS

Tight and tightly laced with some putty aromas. So savoury and mineral! Very distinctive. Should be long-lived. Admirably persistent. 17/20 PointsJancis Robinson

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION

The perfect accompaniment to fish and shellfish based dishes we would pair this with a light seafood risotto or Lobster Thermidor or even roast chicken.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING

Winter and Spring were exceptionally dry, with Spring being mild until frosts struck in April. The weather was good with increasing temperatures over summer until July. Towards the end of the season, the weather turned and was still hot but very wet. Harvest began on 4th September, and produced a low yield of healthy, ripe grapes. The wine produced is rich and dense.

PRODUCER NOTES

Champagne Jacquesson is located in the village of Dizy in the Vallée de la Marne, a few kilometres north of Epernay, and is owned and managed by two brothers, Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet. The Jaquesson’s vineyards are in the Grand Cru villages of Aÿ, Avize, and Oiry and the Premier Cru villages of Dizy, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and Hautvilliers.

Several years ago, the brothers began a restoration of Jacquesson and they decided not to have an everyday, non-vintage/vintage offering, preferring instead a vintage Champagne which would be numbered beginning with 7 - the 700 series, based on a new release every year. The trajectory of ascent for this house is steep and their intent of producing quality over quantity has put them in the top handful of Champagne houses; this grower-producer has decided to draw the best of every vintage and the Cuvée 700 is a wine with a blend of several years.

After the house's transformation, the first Cuvee was 728 of the 2000 vintage, then 729 and so on. “728” was the technical number in the book” at that time – however, the first, number 1 dates back to a Cuvee from 1898. The Degorgement Tardif program began with the 733. The brothers retain 15,000 to 20,000 bottles from each of the numbered series for extra ageing, four to five years, on lees.
