CLIMADIFF WINE COOLERS
Founded in Arnage, near Le Mans in France around 25 years ago, the Climadiff brand in synonymous all over Europe with quality wine cooler technology. The Climadiff range of wine cabinets for long term storage are very popular in France in both the restaurant trade and with private clients, simply, they are the #1 brand in the country for refrigerated wine cabinets.
Climadiff wine cabinets are designed to be robust and reliable with many of their units benefitting from winter systems allowing storage of your wine in rooms that can fluctuate in temperature overnight or through winter or summer like a cellar, an outbuilding, garage, sun room or conservatory. Climadiff units are amongst the most long-lived of wine coolers often powering on long past warranty for many years. All the Climadiff wine coolers and cabinets come with a two year parts and labour warranty.
UV Protected Glass or Solid Door?
Climadiff specialise in wine cabinets for long term wine ageing and as such we are often asked if the attractive glass fronted doors or the solid doors are better protection from UV light. Both doors block and obscure UV light, the positive aspect about a solid door is that your wine is in total darkness, however, a negative is that you can not showcase your wine or see your wine without opening the door. Generally, both doors will protect your wine over the longer term and it's just a question of aesthetics and personal taste as to whether to choose a glass door or a solid door, however, if visuals are unimportant, we would recommend the solid door as it's also the cheaper option as well as providing total darkness.
Climadiff Winter Systems?
A good percentage of our customers who buy Climadiff wine cabinets do so for the ultra-reliable winter systems. A winter system acts like a heater and should your ambient temperature drop due to a cold night or a cold spell in winter the Climadiff wine cabinet with a winter system will kick in and protect your wine from temperature variability and of course, freezing!
How does Climadiff protect your wine?
Every Climadiff wine cabinet built and sold covers the five main factors that can damage a wine;
- Humidity - To ensure the cork doesn't dry out (causing wines to oxidize) or that the labels come lose, Climadiff's wine coolers keep a constant humidity between 55-85%. With built-in heating systems that remove moist air, the Climadiff protects your wines from humidity. Should the humidity level rise above or below the 55-85% threshold then an alarm will sound.
- UV Protection - Every Climadiff wine cooler benefits from a UV protected glass door or a solid door so no harmful UV light can pass through and disturb your collection.
- Temperature - All Climadiff wine coolers and cabinets keep a stable and steady temperature, many have winter systems and many are dual zone which can regularly be set between 5-20ºC but check the individual model for exact temperature ranges.
- Odours - The charcoal filters in many of the cabinets ensure that no odours build up in the cabinet and are filtered out to prevent damage to your wines.
- Low vibration - Any unwanted vibrations in a wine cabinet will cause the wines to age prematurely. Vibrations don't just cause noise, they also cause the sediment in your wine to become agitated and disturbed, reducing the longevity of your wine as it ages. All Climadiff wine coolers have low vibration compressors to keep vibration ultra-low.
What types of wine coolers do Climadiff offer?
Climadiff offer a full range of wine coolers and wine cabinets from low capacity, entry level models built for wine service through to large capacity wine cabinets with all the features you'd expect like winter systems, lockable doors, wine registers and more.
Do I need a wine cabinet or a wine cooler?
Whether you need a Climadiff wine cooler or wine cabinet depends totally on your wine collection. If you have a large collection of young wines that you want to age for decades then a wine cabinet is the best choice. If you have a mixed collection of wines to cellar and wines to drink but still a large collection then a wine cabinet with polyvalent technology that offers multiple temperature zones can be a smart choice with your wines for ageing in the middle and top of the cabinet and your wines that are ready to drink in the bottom (we recommend the excellent Climadiff CPW250B1 for this purpose). If you have around one hundreds bottles with a range of ages then a dual zone wine cooler would probably be a good option and for this purpose we think the Climadiff CD110B1 is the best value for money on the market.
Single Zone or Dual Zone Climadiff?
Single Zone or Dual Zone is our most frequently asked question at CoolerSomm HQ!
Single Zone wine coolers are perfect for collections that require ageing. Unless you need part of your wine cooler to be used for service then we always say that a single zone wine cooler will do the same job as the most impressive chateau cellar, indeed, they are designed to replicate those exact conditions. Set the single zone at 12ºC and reds, whites, champagnes and sweet wines will happily mature for years. Dual zone Climadiff wine coolers are popular for those who need a service section, have some wines that are just ready to drink now or those who really prefer to cellar their wines at different temperatures.
