The sliding shelves pull out effortlessly and are run on ball bearings, constructed from sapele (mahogany) or beech wood as these woods are both durable and attractive and much stronger than oak. All of the units benefit from quality shelves and all benefit from UV protected glass doors, humidity management, carbon filters, temperature controls with alarms and all of them feature a lock and key so no troublesome teenager can get at your finest Pomerol or Chassagne Montrachet! All Swisscave wine fridges come with a two year parts and labour warranty.
Premium or Classic Edition Swisscave?
In 2020 Swisscave divided their range into Premium and Classic Edition wine coolers. One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is about what the differences are between both except the price. The premium Swisscaves contain;
- Multi-coloured LED lighting, white, amber and blue
- A greater number of shelves
- The option to purchase mahogany (sapele) shelving
- The components benefit from the most recent technology and the wine cooler is quieter by a couple of decibels
- The doors, while both UV protected, have a different aesthetic.
The Premium editions benefit from newer technology and are quieter and more energy efficient, however, this is by Swisscave's standards, to make that point, the Classic Edition Swisscave is still quieter than all the other wine coolers on our website except Liebherr.
Standard or MIX Swisscave shelving?
The question of standard or MIX shelving wholly depends on your own wine collection. If your wine collection is mostly Bordeaux and Bordeaux shaped bottles than the standard shelving is the best option. If your wine collection is a mix of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace or Champagne shaped bottles than the MIX shelving will suit your needs and you will gain more space in your wine cooler for more bottles.
How does Swisscave protect your wine?
Every Swisscave built and sold covers the five main factors that can damage a wine;
- Humidity - To ensure the cork doesn't dry out (causing wines to oxidize) or that the labels come lose, Swisscave wine coolers keep a constant humidity between 55-85%. With built-in heating systems that remove moist air, the Swisscave protects your wines from humidity. Should the humidity level rise above or below the 55-85% threshold then an alarm will sound.
- UV Protection - Every Swisscave wine cooler benefits from a UV protected glass door so no harmful rays can pass through to your bottles.
- Temperature - All Swisscave wine fridges can be programmed between 5-20°C either as a single or a dual zone wine cooler. This wide ranging temperature allows you to store or serve white, red or Champagnes.
- Odours - The charcoal filters ensure that no odours build up in the cabinet and are filtered out to prevent damage to your wines.
- Low vibration - Any unwanted vibrations in a wine cabinet will cause the wines to age prematurely. Vibrations don't just cause noise, they also cause the sediment in your wine to become agitated and disturbed, reducing the longevity of your wine as it ages. All Swisscaves have low vibration compressors to keep vibration ultra-low.
What types of wine coolers do Swisscave offer?
Whatever size, variety, age or price-tag is attached to your wine collection we dont believe there is a better brand on the market to protect your prized collection. Swisscave wine cabinets can be built-in or freestanding, can operate in garages and cellars, restaurants or kitchens, can be used for storage or service, or both at the same time. They can be single zone or dual temperature zone, can have a mix of shelving for different bottles or come with standard Bordeaux size shelves. They can protect 30 wines or 200 wines and come in a range of prices from £800 to over £3000. Whatever your wine storage needs, there is a Swisscave wine cooler for you.
Swisscave Freestanding or Built- In Wine Cooler?
All Swisscaves can stand alone as freestanding wine coolers or be built into kitchen carpentry and sit flush to your kitchen cupboards. As Swisscaves are front venting wine coolers from a panel at the bottom of the unit this allows the cabinet to placed under counter or between kitchen units. The new kitchen range can be completely integrated into your kitchen design.
Single Zone or Dual Zone Swisscave?
All Swisscaves can be set between 5-20°C. This makes a single zone ideal for those who want to cellar one type of wine over the longer term at a certain temperature like Bordeaux or Burgundy, however, by setting the wine cooler at the universal 12°C you can keep most reds and whites over the long term. It's also possible to use the wine cooler for service if there is only one type of wine you want to keep in the fridge, either red, white or Champagne can be catered for in service by a single zone Swisscave. Our best selling single zone Swisscave is the premium edition Swisscave WLB-160F.
A dual zone is useful if you want to cellar different wines at different temperatures, want to use part of the fridge for service or just want that degree of flexibility should your wine collection change. Dual zones are more expensive but if you want that versatility then it may well be worth the extra money. Our top selling dual zone Swisscave is the Swisscave WL-455DF. This wine fridge has a large capacity, dual zones and benefits from a display shelf.
Do I need a handle?
All Swisscave fridges come with additional extras you can purchase from shelves to filters to handles. The handles are the most frequently bought accessory with a Swisscave but are they actually necessary? The handles come in a range of colours including black, red, gold, copper and silver and are mostly chosen because they fit in with the decor of the rest of the kitchen. However, it is not necesary to purchase a handle as the wine fridge can be opened and closed perfectly well without. It's all a matter of personal taste; like wine!
