OVERVIEW

From the estate that birthed Spanish wine legend Alvaro Palacios in Rioja Baja comes one of Spain's best modern wines, the inimitable; Propiedad. Growing up amongst the vines of Bodegas Palacios Remondo no doubt formed the young Alvaro who went on to the create two other Spanish superstars, L’Ermita in Priorat and La Faraona in El Bierzo, both heralded as modern classics on the Spanish wine scene. He has since returned to Rioja Baja and revolutionised Palacious Remondo, cutting production by 60% and introducing new winemaking techniques.

La Propiedad is a single-variety bottling of Grenache from vineyards planted at 550 metres of altitude. The vineyard’s soils are mainly calcareous, clayey-ferrous and with a large amount of pebbles. The harvest is carried out manually. The wine is matured in new French oak.

CRITIC REVIEWS

I was really taken by the 2020 Propiedad, a pale and bright ruby-colored wine with subtleness and elegance despite its 14.5% alcohol. The old vines are a majority of Garnacha and maybe 8% other varieties. The wine is floral, with notes of stone fruit, clean and without fissures, seamless, quite showy and with a terrific sense of balance and elegance. 21,861 bottles and 105 magnums were filled in February 2022. 95 Points. Luis Gutiérrez - Wine Advocate

The face of new Spanish winemaking together with Raul Perez, Alvaro Palacios is ripping up the ancient rulebook of viticulture in Rioja and reinvigorating its image with wines of unmatched freshness and style.

Returning to his home vines in 2000 after creating the wine superstars of  L’Ermita in Priorat and La Faraona in El Bierzo, the focus has been on reducing yields and introducing clean and modern wine making techniques.

Organic practises are used in the vineyard and winery and grapes are hand harvested throughout the property.
