Description
OVERVIEW
The La Gloire de Mon Père is proof, were proof needed, that wines of high quality and fair price can be found in South West France. We carry one wine from Bergerac; the best one - La Gloire de Mon Père, a punchy, delicious Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend.
The poster boy for organic and biodynamic winemaking in this part of the world, Luc de Conti of Château Tour des Gendres has been producing wines of outstanding quality in a corner of France well known for its gastronomy but in the shade of Bordeaux when it comes to wine. With La Gloire de Mon Père you have a full bodied, Bordeaux-esque blend as good as wines three times the price from a few miles east of Ribagnac. Stylistically, with a good splash of Malbec the wines sometimes feel like a mix between the Sud-Ouest and Bordeaux styles.
CRITIC REVIEWS ('19)
This is a powerful wine, rich in tannins as well as blackberry fruits. With a good proportion of Malbec in the blend, the wine is dark in color and in tannin intensity. It needs plenty of aging and should not be drunk before 2024. Organic. 91 Points. Wine Enthusiast
FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION
Not much will pair better with this big bold, Malbec inspired red than dark meat and Perigord charcuterie.
PRODUCER NOTES
The biodynamic and organic Château Tour des Gendres, owned by the Conti family has been producing wines since 1925. The best known producer in the area with this their premier bottling, Château Tour des Gendres show the quality than can be had from this somewhat forgotten, once burgeoning wine region.
Similar to Bordeaux, but dryer, warmer and inland, the region is a mix between Cahors and Bordeaux and as such producers wines that feel like a blend of the two with both Malbec, Cab and Merlot playing a starring role in this blend.
All the grapes are destalked before a punch-down then a long maceration for 30 days with a micro-oxygenation under the cap marc. The malolactic fermentation occurs in the vat with minimal filtration.
