Description
OVERVIEW
A 100% Pinot Noir, zero dosage, zero sulfur Champagne that is as dry as a bone and offers up precise white fruits and a creamy texture. This is a complex and bready Champagne that truly highlights the quality of the Drappier lutte raisonne philosophy of winemaking.
CRITIC REVIEWS
Pinot Noir is the most widely planted vine in the Côte des Bar, the origin of this wine. It is bone dry and very crisp, with an attractive red-currant fruitiness that brings in a light structure. The bottling needs to age, so wait until early 2020 before drinking. Roger Voss100% Pinot Noir, unfiltered, organic, on Jurassic Kimmeridgian chalk, low sulphites (15–25 mg/l). 100% from Urville. Aged three years under the sea in the Bay of St-Malo post disgorgment in June 2014. No dosage though there is probably 1–2 g/l 'unfermentable' sugar.
A little more smoky than the cellar-aged wine. Mousse is firmer but less aggressive. This is really tight and direct too. Less difference from the cellar-aged bottle than in the Carte d'Or pair. Beautifully creamy on the palate, very smooth but the mousse is released more slowly, thinks Michel Drappier. More citrus here. Still very tight, very crisp, greaty purity and a more salty aftertaste. But it also seems more yeasty and complex. More tension, seemingly higher acidity. (JH) 17.5 Points. Jancisrobinson.com

PRODUCER NOTES
Eight generations of Famille Drappier have taken on the reigns at this respected Champagne house and as of today Michel and Sylive run the enterprise with their children, Charlene and Hugo are becoming more involved in the day to day running.
Today, the family vineyard spans over 62 hectares, without including those under contractual arrangements with other growers.
The Drappier vineyard, mainly located in the village of Urville, maintains the strong identity of the Bar-sur-Aube arrondissement, characterised by the influence of Pinot Noir. This grape prevails here, representing 70% of the estate, supplemented by Pinot Meunier at 15%, Chardonnay at 9%, and old grape varieties at 6%.
Proximity to the vines is necessary to keep a close eye on how they evolve and interact with their environment. Because the vineyards are all local, the family has stepped up its sustainable approach to viticulture, and become certified as “organic”.
