OVERVIEW

From the Les Combes climat on the iconic Corton hill, this south facing vineyard occupies an envious position with some vines over 80 years old. This Corton Grand Cru wine is exceptionally generous, concentrated, structured and long with dark cherry fruit, vanilla and spice.

CRITIC REVIEWS

A kernel of black cherry and blackberry fruit at the heart of this red teases you on the attack. The muscular tannins settle in as this plays out on the finish. Has all the parts, just needs time. Best from 2023 through 2042. 94 Points Wine Spectator

There is enough reduction to dominate the underlying fruit though I doubt that it will persist for long. Otherwise there is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the sleek, delicious and vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess an attractive texture while delivering solid length and focused power on the firm but not really austere finale. This is not especially complex but more depth should develop in time. 92 Points Allan Meadows

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION

A concentrated, dark fruit Pinot Noir that will pair beautifully with game and roasted meats. We love the match of Beef Wellington and this Corton.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING

An extraordinary vintage for whites but an outstanding vintage for reds too, the reds of the Cote de Beaune faired really well despite an early bud burst in February and frost in April (a now well known pattern). However, the long, warm summer ripened the remaining yields to perfection.

The wine spends 18 months in 50% new Burgundian pièce.

PRODUCER NOTES

Since the 1880s the Tollot family have been working this land with their original vineyards planted in the Burgundy village of Chorey-lès-Beaune. The latest generation are among one of the friendliest families in the Cote de Beaune and respected winemakers, Nathalie, Jean-Paul and Olivier are well known in the industry for welcoming members of the trade. With a serious, cellar worthy style, the wines are fruit forward and often great for drinking young.
