A classic pure varietal wine from the king of the altitude vineyards; G.D Vajra. A delicious Barbera that will pair marvellously with a whole range of foods from tomato based pasta dishes through to mushroom risotto. A bottle of Vajra's Barbera should be in the house at all times!

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION

A simple homemade pizza or tomato based pasta dish is the perfect accompaniment to this Barbera which also pairs well with a mushroom risotto.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING

The 2021 vintage was a mixed vintage with low yields for many grape types in the Piedmont but the Barbera was picked fairly early compared to the Nebbiolo.

This Barbera d'Alba comes from a range of six vineyards throughout the estate. It is fermented for an average of 20 days and ages no less than twelve months, in respect of the rhythm of nature. This is a fine blend, a charming wine, rich yet forward.

PRODUCER NOTES

A pioneer in Barolo and the Piedmont through his lifetime, Aldo Vajra founded his estate in the 1970s and throughout this time has advocated wines from high altitude vineyards and developed wines from indigenousness grapes (like the amazing Freisa that Vajra have made their own) and brought grapes into the region to flourish like the Rhine Riesling.

The family still continue to innovate with research into soils and climate changes whilst managing to produce exceptional wines of power and finesse in every vintage.

This wine should be stored around 12°C and served between 16-18°C. We recommend an hour in the decanter to make the most of the wine.
