The 35th and final vintage delivered by the hand of Henri Boillot himself before he handed over the 2021 vintage to son, Guillaume and what a vintage to sign off on!
The 2020 vintage for white Burgundy has been heralded as one of the best in recent memory and the Meursault bottling from Boillot has been termed "Outstanding" and "Incredibly pure" by critics like Meadows, Morris and Decanter. This is a delicious Meursault that is already giving pleasure and will improve over the next decade. A case buy for sure!
CRITIC REVIEWS
Mostly made from their own grapes from Luraules, Petit Charrons, Pelles Dessus along with grapes they harvest from En La Barre and Clos du Cromin. The new wood level has been reduced to 15-20%. More lemon than lime in colour, quite a plump nose though fruit detail awaits. Builds very nicely on the palate, some ripe greengage notes, very good fresh finish with a balance between the flesh and the acidity. Recognisably Meursault. Tasted: 10/1/2021. 91 Points. A wine with an incredible purity of citrus fruit and just a hint of reduction, plus a buttery note and a creamy texture that come out on the palate. Marvellous. This textbook Meursault is produced from domaine-owned parcels such as the Clos du Cromin, En la Barre and Casse Têtes, as well as fruit purchased from Narvaux, Tillets, Limosin, Chevalières and Petits Charrons. The grapes are lightly crushed and pressed in a state-of-the-art vertical press with the cage sealed. The must is fermented in cask (20% new). Drinking Window 2023 - 2030. 94 Points. Notes of smoked hazelnut, poached pear and pretty acacia blossom scents introduce sleek, intense and beautifully delineated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the clean, focused, balanced and beautifully long finale. This could use a bit more depth but overall, this is a first-rate Meursault villages. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding! 91 Points. Allan Meadows
FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION
This 94 point Chardonnay from Meursault is made for dishes with textured seafood and chicken like a lobster thermidor, chicken fricassee or prawn dish. Mushroom based sauces and dishes also pair very well with a Meursault.
VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING
Lauded as an exceptional vintage for whites by local MW Jasper Morris, the white harvest was one of the earliest harvests in living memory. The whites offer an incredible purity of fruit, freshness and a clear ability to evolve over the longer term. The harvest on 22nd August was the earliest in the history of the domaine.
Produced from domaine-owned grapes from En la Barre, Casse Tetes ad Clos du Cromin plus some additional fruit from surrounding vineyards. Pressed in a vertical press and fermented in 20% new oak casks. This is the last vintage for Henri Boillot himself before passing onto son Guillaume whom he writes 'This generation seems to know everything and has refused to take my advice, so I hope that the great work will continue and that the new white wines will continue to bring you the same pleasure and emotions as before.'
It sounds like the style of wine may change so a stocking up on a few bottles of the 94 point 2020 seems like a good idea!

The Meursault based estate of Henri Boillot produce some of the very finest wines on the Côte de Beaune. Entering his 35th and final year, Boillot has garnered a reputation for excellence and his signature Meursault wines are highly sought after. These precise, laser focused wines have a cult following.
Guillaume, Henri's son, is taking over the reins in production of both red and white wine from 2021. The Boillot family own 14 hectares of vineyards including the monopole Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère in Puligny-Montrachet.
