OVERVIEW
A bold, round, full bodied Chilean Chardonnay bursting with tropical fruit and honey. However, the signature Chilean lively fresh acidity prevents the wine from being 'overtly' Chardonnay and instead offers a well balanced, delicious, almost lemon meringue pie of a wine. Highly rated at 93 points and great value for money.
FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION
This full bodied Chardonnay will pair well with roast or buttered chicken dishes or pan-seared fish.
VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING
The grapes were hand harvested from vines planted on a sheltered southerly hillside, with sandy-granite soils. There are three different clonal selections, and the vineyards are farmed biodynamically.
After whole-bunch pressing, the must, with high level of solids, was fermented in French oak barrels using native yeasts. Regular battonage was carried out and between 10-15% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, before being aged in French oak barrels of varying sizes.
PRODUCER NOTES
A biodynamic winery in the Rosario Valley, the Matetic family history in Chile started in 1892 when they emigrated from Croatia to Punta Arenas. Originally in sheep and dairy farming, it was only in 1999 that the fourth generation of the Matetic family turned their attention to wine.
The well drained, quartz sand terroir of the Matetic estate equalled low yields but really high quality fruit allowing the family to charge good prices for their wines. Today the family produces over 600,000 litres of wines per year.
