NV Nyetimber Rosé, England
The Nyetimber Estate lies across three sites in Sussex, Hampshire and Kent. The south facing slopes get the best possible sun exposure, ensuring that the grapes will achieve the optimum level of ripeness. The soils are greensand and chalk, much like the best sparkling wine producing regions in the world. The climate is ideal for the slow ripening of the grapes. They use the traditional Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier for their sparkling wine.
Nyetimber use the 'traditonal method' of making sparkling wine, aging them on the lees and in bottle for an extended amount of time. This gives the wine the finesse and elegance that has become the signature of Nyetimber sparkling wine.
45–75% Chardonnay, 25–55% Pinot Noir, <5% Pinot Meunier. Dosage 9 g/l. Aged 36 months on lees.
Salmon pink. Fresh redcurrant and red-apple aroma, zingy acid and biscuity notes on the finish. Saline and savoury. Lovely refreshment, and that fruit is very pronounced. Excellent winemaking, very satisfying. (RH) 17.5/20 Points. Richard Hemming, jancisrobinson.com (August 2021)
Creamy rose hip tisane on the nose also has a touch of lemon and finest yeast. The palate expands on these notions with creamy fruitful generosity. Rose hip is joined by red apple, lemon is boosted by zestiness and the finest mousse amplifies that creamy feel. It's a classy but thoroughly hedonistic rosé that unites generosity, elegance and utter freshness. Consider this alongside subtle food—its inherent depth will add dimensions of pleasure. Lovely now, sure to develop. Drink now–2025. Anne Krebiehl MW. 94 Points.Wine Enthusiast
FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION
The quintessential pairing for the Nyetimber Rose is Brown Crab or Salmon Fillets.
VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING
The rose is made up of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. It consists of 10-20% of reserve wine, which gives it it's rosy hue. The grapes come from all three sites and from various vintages. The grapes are handpicked parcel by parcel to ensure quality, ripeness and character. The fruit is then gently pressed and vinified separately. They are aged on the lees in bottle for an extensive amount of time and then bottled.
Grapes were first planted on the Nyetimber estates in 1988 but it was not until 2006 when the estate was bought by Eric Heerema that the estate began to reach its full potential. Eric recruited the husband and wife team of Cherie Spriggs and Brad Greatrix to create his vision of fine English sparkling wine.
Since then, they have dedicated themselves to growing the best grapes from the best sites and have now gone on to achieve world wide acclaim. They have won many sparkling wine competitions and Nyetimber is now recognised as one of the world's greatest sparkling wines.
