OVERVIEW
For those in love with the romance of Champagne, Taittinger will hold a special place in their heart. One of the few Grande Marques still in the hands of the original French family and the favourite Champagne of Ian Fleming's James Bond, Taittinger is an evocative and delicious, refreshing Champagne that offers superb value for the price.
CRITIC REVIEWS
Pale lemon. Fresh nose. Very tight. Lean and lemony bones, although it does, just, begin to loosen up and spread across the palate towards the end, showing a bit of weight and development to come. Lemon sponge cut with a green blade. 16.5 Points Jancisrobinson.com
Brut Réserve is the cornerstone of Taittinger's extremely impressive portfolio: indeed the selection of Grande Marque Champagnes featured in this report includes many of the best and most reliable 'standard' Brut wines from the major houses, and that certainly includes Taittinger. It's an approachable and crowd-pleasing style with its upfront, fragrant aromas of peachy fruitiness, floral notes and biscuit, the 40% Chardonnay and three years on the lees enhancing that (also 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier). The palate is on the sumptuous side, expansive and creamy, a level of sweetness making it feel rather luxurious, thought that's not at the expensive of excellent acidity and clarity in the finish. 93 Points. Now in the hands of Pierre's great grand-daughter, Vitalie, the Taittiner family own 288-hectares of vineyards and continue to produce a range of Champagnes with the most famous. the Brut Reserve, a French staple.
