OVERVIEW

From a great Burgundian vintage and a bold, respected Domaine, the usually extremely fine wines of Chambolle Musigny are presented with a little more pizzazz in the hands of Domaine Hubert Lignier.

Bursting with fresh red fruit and boasting enviable length, this is a wine that can be approached today but would be better held until 2024+.

CRITIC REVIEWS

A regular grape purchase since 2007 from the same producer, from vines in in Drazey and Gamaires. Vinified with one third whole bunch and 20% new wood. Deep bright crimson, clean fresh and lively, with a depth of cherry/strawberry fruit behind to fill the mouth. Long finish. 90-92 Points Jasper Morris

A more elegant if not fresher nose reflects notes of dark cherry, earth and a touch of humus, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. As one would expect given the old vines, the medium weight flavors possess both more volume and concentration before concluding in a firm, compact and lingering finish that also flashes a touch of rusticity. 91 Points Allan Meadows

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION

Chambolle Musigny is known as one of the lightest styles of Pinot Noir however, this old vines bottling has a bit more power than a standard bottling thanks to the depth of the red cherry/strawberry fruit. This wine is delicious paired with lighter meats like roast pigeon or roast guinea-fowl but also chicken dishes.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING

The 2017 vintage started off tricky but ended; sublime. The 2017 reds are of supreme freshness and in Chambolle Musigny produced wines of intense freshness and depth of red fruit.

The tannins are very well integrated with a rather light texture and silky, comparable in quality to the 2010 and 2002 vintages.

The grapes are vinified with one third whole bunch, adding to the freshness and matured in 20% new French oak.

PRODUCER NOTES

One of the most respected producers in Burgundy, Hubert Lignier is responsible for the renaissance of this superb 9-hectare domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis. Today, the domaine is run by his son, Laurent, but Hubert still oversees the operation and is there to lend a guiding, experienced hand.

The domaine is managed to organic principles with minimal intervention in the winery. The wines receive no racking after undergoing malolactic fermentation, and do not undergo fining or filtration. Oak use too is carefully measured with no more than 20-25% used on the top Premier Crus and 30% at most on the Grand Crus.
