2019 Sito Moresco Rosso Langhe, Gaja, Piedmont, Italy
The Sito Moresco was created a softer and earlier drinking 'taste of the Langhe' and contains 50% Nebbiolo, 40% Barbera and 10% Merlot.
An 'entry level' wine from Italian master, Angelo Gaja, the Sito Moresco is approachable young but will also improve over the coming decade. From the near perfect, textbook, 2019 vintage, the grapes from the Barbaresco region, this is one of the best Sito Morescos in modern history.

FOOD PAIRING INSPIRATION
The high tannin and acid of the Nebbiolo is softened by the Barbera and even more by the Merlot making this wine great for grilled red meats and hard cheese.
VINTAGE AND WINEMAKING
The 2019 vintage was textbook with no climatic events and an even temperature. Barbaresco faired even better than the rest of the region with near perfect grapes and yields for all three varietals.
The three varieties ferment and macerate separately for three weeks. After the malolactic fermentation, the varieties are blended and then aged in oak for 12 months.
Established in 1859, Gaja is a family-owned winery in Italy of cult status in the wine world. Giovanni Gaja founded this winery, and his great-grandson, Angelo Gaja runs the estate today. The family produces and vinifies grapes in the 250 acres of vineyards it owns in Italy's popular wine region, Piedmont and Tuscany. This estate in Piedmonte s located in the districts of Barbaresco and Barolo.
Angelo Gaja is a legend in Italian winemaking and given a lot of credit for putting Piedmont on the global map today. Part of the avant-garde of 'new' Barolo producers, he has helped shape the current economic climate and high demand for the very best wines of the Piedmont.
