General Information
Why do I need a dual zone wine fridge?
There are many reasons you may want to choose a dual zone wine chiller in the UK from your household being split down the middle by red/white preference to your own desire to need a two temperature wine fridge to use for partial service and partial long term wine storage. All dual zone fridges offer two independent temperature zones where one zone can be kept at a different temperature to the other but not all our built for both purposes with some more suitable for long term maturation of wine over others.
How does a dual zone fridge protect my wine?
The five factors that can harm a wine collection are heat, light, vibration, bad odours and humidity.
All dual zone wine fridges have temperature controls to protect from heat. They all have UV protected doors to protect from light. They all have either automatic humidity controls or user operated controls.
Vibration is controlled by the shelving system and the internal manufacturing to reduce vibration. For improved vibration control select fully wooden shelving.
Bad odours, or unclean air are controlled with a carbon filter which is not present in every wine fridge especially if it has been created for wine service rather than storage. If you're laying down wine for a short time, this isn't important, however, if you want your wine to mature for years or your wine fridge is placed in a poorly ventilated area, then a carbon filter is beneficial. Dual zone or single zone, which is right for me?
If you have a large collection of wine to mature over the longer term and have no wine service needs then a single zone wine fridge is ideal.
If however you want a fridge for partial service or total wine service (serving wine at the ideal temperature) then a dual zone is the right choice.
How many bottles can fit in a dual zone?
Dual zones come as small as 20 bottles all the way to over 200 bottles. All wine fridges have their capacities quoted in Bordeaux style bottles, if you have a mixed collection, its important to remember that Burgundy style or Champagne style bottles will reduce the overall capacity.
What temperatures can a dual zone hold?
Most dual zone wine fridges have temperature ranges between 5-18c, however, this changes per model and brand.
In most cases most dual zone wine fridges also need to be set at least 4 degrees apart. If you want a fridge at one temperature, it's better to buy a single zone wine fridge.
Do dual zone fridges have UV protected doors?
Almost all dual zone wine fridges come with UV protected doors rather than solid doors because solid doors are designed for long term wine storage.
