Regardless of height or depth, 600mm (60cm) wide wine coolers are actually 59.5cm in width to allow for air circulation around the unit. During your search for a wine cooler you have probably noticed that some are labelled ‘freestanding’ and some are labelled ‘built-in’. Freestanding units should not be built in to kitchen carpentry as they need 2-3 inches of space around them to vent, without this the unit would overheat. This would depend entirely on the height, the number of temperature zones and shelves in the cooler and your wine collection. An undercounter wine cooler might hold around 40-50 bottles, but add a dual zone and that number will reduce. A full size wine cabinet can hold up to 200 bottles of wine.
