Expert Advice on 10 Bottle Wine Fridges
10 bottle wine fridges come in two styles - single zone, whereby the wine fridge will keep wines at one serving temperature as most 15cm wide fridges are not big enough to be broken into two zones or dual zone, but these would generally be the units between 15-30cms wide.
10 bottle wine coolers don't tend to come with features like lock, carbon filter, winter system etc as they are generally functional, service style wine fridges that are used in kitchens and occasionally bars and restaurants where they may be used for 'by the glass' options in wine bars.
How to install a 10 bottle wine fridge?
10 bottle wine fridges, except for use in a wine bar or restaurant, are generally going to built into a kitchen, usually on an island or amongst other electrical appliances in a kitchen. These units are front venting, that means you can not close off their fronts with a cabinet door, and must allow the front bottom ventilation panel to stay visible and free. A wooden plinth, with ventilation holes, may be used to allow the 10 bottle wine fridge to fit seamlessly into your kitchen design.
We generally also recommend a 1.5cm gap at the back of the wine fridge too, also for ventilation. There isn't really any special technique to installing the wine fridge. Simply remember that it will need to be connected to your electrical mains that should also run behind the unit and that you'll need an aperture of at least 15cm.
The doors on 10 bottle wine fridges can not always sit flush to the cabinetry as the door will usually need another 1.5-2cm to open at the hinge. All of these eventualities are explained on each product page where an installation guide can be found.
10 Bottle Wine Fridges – Buying Guide
Do 10 Bottle Wine Fridges cost a lot to run?
Wine fridges in general do cost more to run than standard electrical appliances as they are battling the ambient temperature to allow your wines to be served or stored at a set temperature. A 10 bottle wine fridge would be considered low range and depending on whether the unit was a brand new model and using the latest technology and whether it was a dual or single zone, would use anything from 80-150 kWh per year. In terms of monetary costs, that's anything between £40-£75 a year to run.
Do 10 Bottle Wine Fridges go into the garage or cellar?
All of the units below can also operate as freestanding wine fridges, however we would not recommend placing one of these units outside of the regular home environment as ambient temperature drops can't be countered against as these units do not have a winter system.
What this means is that as the ambient temperatures drop below your set temperature the unit just wont work and your wines will continue to get colder.
What's a good price for a 10 bottle wine fridge?
On the premium, high quality end, 100 bottle wine fridges start from around £800 but can increase in price all the way to £2000+ if you buy the world's very best brands.
There are very cheap 10 bottle wine fridges on the market from certain brands, however, we do not stock them as their reliability is too poor and they do not make for a good long term investment.
Do 10 Bottle Wine Fridges have two temperature zones?
Generally 10 bottle wine fridges are not dual zone due to the fact it would cut the wine fridge in half and offer even less capacity than their small stature already dictates.
However, there are some lower capacity dual zone wine fridges, the smallest being the 17 Bottle Dunavox Flow wine fridge.
Are 10 Bottle Wine Fridges Noisy?
Generally 10 bottle wine coolers are not noisy due to the fact they are usually meant for kitchen use and as such would be distracting and cause annoyance in a kitchen if they were annoying.
What security features are there for 10 Bottle Wine Fridges?
10 bottle wine fridges generally wouldn't have the kind of security features of a wine maturation cabinet, however, the very best units from Swisscave do have lockable doors.
